This episode is a recast of an earlier episode where we welcomed Jennifer Walker to our table to discuss the various types of domestic violence. Jennifer explains how domestic violence doesn’t always look like the picture we often see portrayed of a white woman, cowering in a corner with a black eye.
Jennifer has her master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Colorado at Denver. Her program concentration was in domestic violence, program management, and policy development. Since 1999, Jennifer has been the executive director of the Crisis Center, an agency that serves victims of family violence in Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert, and Lincoln counties in Colorado. As part of her duties, Jennifer provides training and consultation specific to domestic violence, program development, non-profit management, and board development. Jennifer also teaches at Metro State University in the Human Services Department. Prior to her work at the Crisis Center, Jennifer worked for 13 years within the Criminal Justice System as a victim advocate for the Weld County and Denver District Attorney’s Offices and as the Coordinator of Victim Services at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Now, pull up a chair and join us as Jennifer walks us through Defining Domestic Violence. After the show, if you’d like to hear more from Jennifer, hop on over to our Patreon account where Jennifer joins us again for a bonus episode where we discuss trauma and how it affects the brain.
