Beyond Picket Fences
“Picket Fences” symbolizes the “perfect fence around the perfect house encompassing the perfect life.” We realized that even if and when we found ourselves surrounded by the “picket fence” there was so much more to learn beyond that. We want to explore, learn and appreciate what lies Beyond Picket Fences for not only ourselves, but for all in our community.

Who We Are
We believe that through authentic storytelling, community, trust & vulnerability we will impact the lives of women on their journey of self love & healing.
Our Passion
We began Beyond Picket fences with the women’s journey and storytelling in mind.
We keep
Authenticity, open mindedness, self-improvement, commitment, honesty, and vulnerability at the core of our work.
We believe these values help us hold ourselves and our community accountable to telling their stories, respecting others and improving themselves in the process.
Mandi’s Story
Mandi is a wife and mother of two. After spending her life following the path of what she thought was “supposed to do,” Mandi found herself severely ill and was eventually diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis (UC). UC is an autoimmune disease that causes your immune system to attack your lower intestine causing ulcers within the colon.
It was then Mandi decided to shift her lifestyle drastically. She quit her job as a Financial Controller and began working in Real Estate where she found the work-life balance she’d always yearned for. She became a plant-based vegan and eventually went on to earn a holistic nutrition certification because she believes in the power of plant-based foods and how they can heal the body. She became an avid yogi. Through all of these lifestyle changes, she found a much simpler path to peacefully navigate life at a much slower pace.
Naomi’s Journal
My name is Naomi Rebecca Marquez. I am a daughter, a sibling of four, a wife, mother of four and a grandmother four. I am a best friend, a friend, a mentor, a boss and an employee.
My true inner healing began when I was 44. It was a Tuesday February 21, 2017. I took the day off of work and those that know me know a day of work is rare. It felt like I was nesting, I spent all day cleaning trying to keep my mind off what news will be coming my way. This also just happened to be my husband’s annual work budget meeting so he was traveling. It was 3:30pm and my cell phone rang, it was my gynecologist. I remember clearly, I was in my bathroom holding my cell phone tight to my ear so I would not miss what she said.
This is when I found out I tested positive for breast cancer. I was alone and confused. My thoughts went immediately to my aunt who was a couple years older than me and in stage 3 or 4 breast cancer. Over the next 2 years throughout my journey I not only sought healing in health but in all areas of my life.
